Ingredients:

Urad dal  1tbsp
Channa dal  1tbsp
Moong dal  1tbsp
Moath dal  1tbsp
Arhar dal  1tbsp
Whole red chillies  2
Turmeric powder  1/2tsp
Red chilli powder  1/2 tsp
Salt  to taste
Asofitida  a pinch
Cumin seeds  1/2 tsp
Onion chopped  1
Tomato chopped  1large
Tomato puree  1 tbsp
Green coriander leaves  1tbsp
Garam masala  1/2 tsp
Butter 
1tbsp

Method:

Mix and soak all the five dals in water for 2-3hrs.Cook all the dals in an open pan  add salt and turmeric powder. Cook on slow fire for a special flavour.But you can pressure cook it if you prefered for 3-4 whistles.Otherwise cook in an open pan.Let it simmer for an hour.When it is soft and cooked properly keep aside.Make baghar or tadka for the dal.
Heat butter in a pan add asofitida cumin and whole red chillies.When splutters add onions when brown add tomato and tomato puree.Cook till butter floats on top.Add red chilli powder and little water. Now add cooked dals.Let it cooked for another 10 minutes.Add garam masala and coriander leaves. Serve hot with roti or rice.
